NMS-sponsored Wild Waves team smashes world record!
Jessica Oliver and Charlotte Harris (GB) who had never rowed before, battled 30ft waves, sleep deprivation, heat, blisters, sharks and a 360-degree capsize in bad weather to complete the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, which is considered to be the world’s toughest row.
It began on 12 December 2021 and finished a staggering five days ahead of their nearest rivals in the pairs category when their boat ‘Wild Waves’ arrived in Antigua on 26 January 2022, also wiping almost five days off the previous female pairs world record in a time of 45 days, seven hours and 25 minutes.
Jessica Oliver, daughter of NMSI’s Head of Business Development and best friend Charlotte took on the challenge with the aim of raising £100,000 for chosen charities, Shelter and Women’s Aid, by rowing more than 3,000 miles west, from the Canary Islands to Antigua among 30 teams participating from around the world.
