Overview

NMS Infrastructure has constructed three 120-bed District Hospitals and one staff accommodation block in Ghana. The completed hospitals are located in Dodowa, Fomena and Kumawu, with the apartment block in Takoradi. Further hospitals are planned or under-construction in Abetifi, Sekondi and Garu-Tempane.

The Shai-Osudoku District Hospital was the first facility to be completed as part of the programme and was handed over to the Ghanaian Ministry of Health in early 2016. Since then, it has outperformed the UN Sustainable Development Goal for Health.

Dodowa Hospital was highly commended by the World Health Organisation following a visit in 2018 by its Africa Director, Dr Matshidiso Moeti, who claimed that the hospital had set a standard that was worth emulating nationwide and across Africa.

The innovative design of the hospitals was intended to provide a therapeutic environment to aid patient recovery while providing value for money by delivering a facility which requires minimal maintenance, has a low-energy footprint and has the capacity for future expansion. The hospitals have been adapted to suit the unique typography and geographical conditions of their locations by a world-class team of experts from the UK and Ghana.

 NMSI was commissioned to build new staff accommodation for the European Hospital in Takoradi. The bespoke residential accommodation units comprise twenty-four 2-bedroom apartments and twelve 3-bedroom apartments, built and designed to be fully furnished.

Apartments are paired within an accommodation block and grouped in 3-storey modules. Balconies assist with solar shading and emergency escape, whilst an open roof structure creates free air flow to carry heat away from the upper storey of the accommodation. Each unit is orientated to the contours of the site and features a landscaped parking area, where each apartment has a single parking space dedicated to it.
