2022 Starts with Works on over 30 Sites Across 4 Countries
2022 begins with much enthusiasm, with works progressing well on over 30 sites across four countries:
ZAMBIA
Phase 1 of the Mini Hospitals (20) is complete, with nine (9) of the Mini Hospitals sites operating successfully and having completed the 12-month defects liability period. On Phase II, 49 sites have been handed over: with a further 27 complete, pending electrification and water supply. A further 24 sites are in various stages of construction, whilst ICMT equipment and training has been carried out on a total of 67 sites. Construction works on the Mfuwe District Hospital site is at 40%; Nchelenge DH at 15%; Kazembe DH at 5%; Kitwe DH at 2%; whilst works on Ndola DH are due to commence in Q1 2022.
GHANA
Continued activity on site at Fomena and Kumawu, with refinement throughout the year on re-establishing supply chains, procurement, sourcing new suppliers, sub-contractor negotiations, design co-ordination and the programme via weekly meetings have provided the confidence that these facilities will be delivered within updated contractual timelines. Full-scale construction works are expected to commence in Q1 2022, post funding effectiveness.
COTE D’IVOIRE
Construction of the first two Regional Hospitals at Bouake and Boundiali are progressing well, with NMS currently working 2% ahead of the original timeline. The site clearing at Katiola is also progressing well, together with the last stage of the geotechnical surveys. On the remaining three sites, the environmental team is in the process of obtaining UKEF approval on the ESIAS.
ZIMBABWE
The first Mini Hospital site on the programme at Stoneridge, Harare South is currently 82% complete and will reach practical completion by the year end, with equipment fully installed in the new year. The substructure work at Cowdray Park, Bulawayo is also expected to be complete in Q4 2021 and a third site at Mataga has been identified. All technical surveys have started and will, along with drawings and approvals, be ready by year end, with construction starting early in 2022.
The NMSI team was bolstered by 59 new starters in 2021 who bring with them a wealth of expertise and experience.
